Festival for Solidarity & Cooperative Economy Festival4sce

Athens, Greece

Invitation

Dear friends,

You are invited to the Festival for Solidarity & Cooperative Economy which has been taking place every October in Athens-Greece since 2012.

Who we are?

Round 200 alternative initiatives from all over Greece participated in the last two events and hundreds of volunteers helped us organize them.
We are members of Greek alternative initiatives and the festival is a self-organised and self-managed process. We don’t collaborate with any political party, NGO nor any recognised organization and we are not funded by any of them. We have different political views and we work with direct participatory democracy.

Every year the festival is a meeting point not only for groups and people who participate in solidarity and cooperative economy inititatives, but also for visitors who are looking for an alternative way to live and be sustainable. We think that this is a good opportunity for initiatives to connect and share knowledge and for visitors to learn and implement new good practices.

What we are going to do?

For the third edition of our festival, which will take place from October 10th to 12th, we want to reach out to the rest of Europe in order to create links and networks of solidarity.

Discussions, presentations and workshops will be among the activities taking place during the festival. We will speak about topics that concern us: commons, degrowth, exchange networks, eco-communities and ecology, sharing resources, sustainability, social engagement… But most of the things are still to be decided and you are most welcome to put forward any proposals you might have.

We want to promote a world that fosters communication, exchange and transition practices for a society based on participation, self-management, solidarity and respect for nature and human beings. A world that is evolving constantly and dynamically towards a new system of values beyond the existing models of smug individualism, consumerism and the sacrifice of everything on the altar of profit and surplus.

Why come to the festival?

It would be great to meet your at our festival. The aim will be to share knowledge and good practices, but also create a base for collaboration, which can foster closer working relationships in the future. We also have a continuity proposal to be discussed: setting up annual meetings, every year in a different place, with the objective of building with time a European Network of cooperation and solidarity from the grassroots. Ambitious? Maybe, but we walk slow because we are going far.

We know that not everybody can make it to our festival. So, as our funds are as well limited, we decided to launch a crowdfunding campaign for key collectives. More info soon.

Whether you can make it to Athens or not, please help us by sharing this invitation with your network so we can reach more people.
